Not sure what salary sacrifice actually means?

You’re not alone — and it doesn’t matter. Salary sacrifice car schemes sound more complicated than they are, and most employers we speak to haven’t come across them before.

In simple terms, it’s a way for your employees to get a brand new car — often including insurance, servicing, and tyres — through their salary, in a way that saves both them and your business money at the same time.

We’ll explain everything clearly, in plain English, at a pace that works for you. There are no silly questions.

1
An employee agrees to give up part of their salary
The amount covers the cost of a new car including running costs. Because it comes out before tax, they pay less income tax and National Insurance.

2
The employer leases the car on their behalf
The company arranges the vehicle through a leasing provider. Because the salary is reduced, the employer also pays less National Insurance.

3
The employee drives away in a new car
They get a fully maintained vehicle, often for less than they’d pay privately. Electric vehicles are especially cost-effective due to their low Benefit in Kind tax rate.

4
Everyone benefits
The employee saves money, the employer reduces NI costs, and the business gains a benefit that genuinely helps with recruitment and retention.
